COUNSELLING APPROACHES

My approach is to co-create a safe context to connect with your innate ability to heal.  I collaborate with you, to foster an environment to nurture an intentional shift felt from within so you are more able to come into living.  This process may be uncomfortable and often intimidating; I will be here to walk beside you on that journey.  Counselling sessions can take place in an office, online, or outside on the land.  The integration of Somatic Experiencing®, narrative therapy, and culturally informed land-based approaches help me tailor our work together so that counselling sessions are valuable and meaningful for you.

Please note, at this time my counselling practice is currently full.  If you are interested in Somatic Experiencing ™ body work, you can book sessions through Wellness on 1st.

What is Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing® is a body based approach to resolving and healing symptoms of trauma developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine.  The Somatic Experiencing® (SE)  approach works with shock trauma and developmental/complex trauma.  It is my guiding philosophy in alignment with your goals to support the innate wisdom of your body to restore healing, resilience, and vitality to engage in life.

What can an SE ™ session look like:

  • conversation & tracking what's happening inside the body

  • movement 

  • gently & slowly working with traumatic material so as not to overwhelm the nervous system

  • touch work with consent may be incorporated to support regulation

Somatic Experiencing® is a holistic approach that can be effective in resolving symptoms of trauma or chronic stress.  Symptoms often occur because of what has happened inside of us in response to an overwhelming event, chronic toxic stress, and/or disruptions in attachment with the caregivers in our lives.
